Temporary Fields                        Lithium Gallery, Chicago (2018)
 

Temporary Fields includes the single-channel film Accession and expands on the processes and ideas of seed exchange throughout the exhibition -- inviting the gardeners, farmers, and enthusiasts we met throughout research and filming, as well as their extended networks, to send seeds to a temporary site of exchange at Lithium Gallery in Chicago. All manner of materials were sent to accompany the seeds, including photos, botanical specimens, and of course letters. These materials were exhibited alongside those that were produced from the film, contrasting its methodology of collecting (or accessioning) to that of the exhibition's focus on generating a temporary convergence of seed varieties as part of a larger network of exchange. If not in Chicago during the Winter, we would have liked to have grown as many of these varieties as possible, for further adaptation and circulation.
